It's a bad habit to sit logged in as root - usually we should use a regular user account, switching to the administrator account only when it's necessary. In that case we have commands like su or sudo at our disposal. If we want, we can permanently block logging in from the console by editing the file /etc/securetty and then commenting out all the entries (tty1, tty2...).
